Tesco is the latest supermarket to get its Christmas stock on shelves despite it still being summer.

It may be the beginning of August, but that's not stopping major retailers from getting geared up for December 25.

Asda has already unveiled its Christmas food range with all the seasonal trimmings. Now Tesco has left shoppers with some strong opinions after welcoming the season four months ahead of schedule.

Customers couldn't help but vent their frustrations after spotting huge displays of chocolate tubs that are popular during festive times. These include Celebrations and Quality Street - on sale in 600g tubs for £4 for Clubcard members - while Cadbury Heroes and Roses are the same price for 550g.

The supermarket has also unveiled its Christmas Product Showcase, meaning party food, decorations and clothing along with other yuletide treats are expected to hit stores in the coming weeks.

Some shoppers can't agree on whether or not it is a good thing. While a lot of people are overjoyed to be able to buy the chocolates early, others have said that it is "too soon" to have them on display.

One confused shopper was in his local branch last week when he spotted stacks of tubs of Celebrations, Quality Street and Roses already on display.

He tweeted: "C’mon @Tesco - it may feel like October today, but putting Christmas tubs of sweets on sale on 27 July, and right in the eyeline of every kid on school holidays?!!

"This isn’t a ‘response to customer demand’ thing, it’s a ‘maximising profit from unhealthy treats’ thing. Do better."

One commenter said: "Supermarkets need to stop this. I’m all for prepping early but the magic of Christmas has been destroyed by multinationals.

"Everything out far too early- all about cashing in and nothing else."
